The crude oil import of China exceeded 400 million tons in 2018

In December 2018, China imported 38.22 million tons of crude oil. So far, the total volume exceeded 400 million, reaching 402 million tons and increased 9.0% year-on-year.

1. The growth of imported crude oil exceeded 19% in the second half of the year.

Except in January and February, the amount of crude oil imported were higher than the same period of last year after March. It is worth noting that the volume of imported crude oil have increased significantly from September to December with international oil prices increasing and the monthly average importation are over 39 million tons during the four months with an average growth of 19.8%, which is faster than the first half of last year with 12.2% increase.

2. The top three source countries are Angola, Saudi Arabia and Iraq, and the import from the last dropped significantly.

As the source of countries, Angola, Saudi Arabia and Iraq are top three for China's maritime import of crude oil. In 2018, the cumulative importation reached 49.28 million tons, 43.86 million tons and 36.22 million tons respectively, accounting for 19.2%. 17.1% and 14.1%. Furthermore,Russia and Oman ranked the fourth and fifth with 24.26 million tons and 22.52 million tons respectively.

3. In 2018, imported through both Ningbo Port and Qingdao Port accumulated more than 40 million tons

China's main import ports for seaborne crude oil include Ningbo Port, Tianjin Port, Qingdao Port, Zhoushan Port, Huizhou Port and Dalian Port. The latest data from Yihailan shows that Ningbo Port has the largest import volume of crude oil with 48.65 million tons, accounting for 12.1% of China's total importation in 2018. Followed by Qingdao Port of 47.92 million tons, accounting for 11.3% and Zhoushan Port and Huizhou Port ranked behind, with an average of 30 million tons . Dalian Qinglanshan Oil Terminal, Yingkou Port and Tianjin Port have a total arrival of about 19 million tons, while Zhanjiang Port and Caofeidian Port have accumulated a total of about 14 million tons.
